Substance Use

MERC faculty conduct research related to the use of a variety of substances, including tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, and opioids. We work to understand factors underlying substance use among at-risk and priority populations and to inform policies and interventions to reduce health disparities related to substance use. Our research employs innovative approaches to address substance use and disorders in diverse populations, such as implementation of managed alcohol programs in homeless populations, mobile health interventions for tobacco cessation with Asian Americans, and medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorders.
